The Queen Mother remembers
Captain the Hon. Fergus Bowes-Lyon was the son of the 14th Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne of Glamis Castle, Forfarshire, Scotland. He served in the 8th Battalion, the Black Watch who were supporting the Devonshire Regiment at Loos.

He was killed on 27 September 1915 at the age of 26, leaving a widow. He previously served with the 2nd Battalion in India.

Fergus Bowes-Lyon was the brother of Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother who, throughout her long life, always marked the anniversary of her brother's death with her own personal tribute (seen in this photo).
