Captain George Newdegate Alison of the Seaforth Highlanders, attached to the Machine Gun Corps (Infantry). Son of the late Sir Archibald Alison, 3rd Bart. and Lady Georgina Alison (née Bond-Cabbell) of Possil House, Budleigh Salterton. Born in Bermuda in 1890. Died 1 July 1916 aged 26.

Lieutenant Elphinstone D'Oyley Aplin of the 2nd Battalion, the Goucestershire Regiment. Son of Lt.-Col. Hugh M and Annie Campbell Aplin of Clinton Lodge, Budleigh Salterton; brother of Eric (see below).  Born in Strood, Kent, in the September Quarter of 1892. Died 13 May 1915 aged 22.

Captain Eric Scott Aplin of the 2nd Battalion, the Worcestershire Regiment. Son of Lt.-Col. Hugh M and Annie Campbell Aplin of Clinton Lodge, Budleigh Salterton; brother of Elphinstone (see above). Born in Strood, Kent in the December Quarter of 1895. Died 11 March 1918 aged 22. (He was wounded at Loos in September 1915 and again on the Somme in November 1916.)

Harriet Barton was the wife of Maurice Charles Barton, a retired Colonel, formerly in the Royal Engineers. Their home was at Serai at West Hill, Budleigh Salterton. At the outbreak of war in 1914, Mrs. Barton set up a 20-bed VAD Hospital at Budleigh Salterton and actively participated in the running of the hospital until January 1919. She died in Budleigh Salterton  6 March 1919 aged 56. Harriet Barton was awarded the MBE for her services to the hospital.

Captain Ernest Cecil Blencowe of "A"Company, 6th Battalion, the Dorset regiment. Son of the late Ernest Gottwaltz of Culworth, Bideford.; husband of Ellen Mary Blanche Blencowe of Westcott, Budleigh Salterton. Born in 1879. Died 16 February aged 36. He changed his surname name to Blencowe-Blencowe from Blencowe- Gottwaltz when war came.

She served in various VAD hospitals in Devon, Malta and Birmingham between 1915 and 6 December 1918 when she died on active service.
