BURRINGTON - WORLD WAR 2 MEMORIAL BRASS

One of two brass tablets, this one is dedicated to the memory of Burrington men who lost their lives in World War 2 can be found in the Church of All Saints.

The inscription reads:

"To the Glory of God - in memory of the following men who gave their lives for their country in the World War 1939 - 1945"

There follow just two names and the following inscription:

"This tablet was sponsored by ex-service personnel of this Parish"

REGINALD SAWREY COOKSON
Wing Commander Reginald Sawrey-Cookson DSO; DFC; born in Radwell, Herts on 20 December 1914. He joined the RAF in 1937 and became Commander of No.75 (New Zealand) Squadron in September 1941. The son of Captain Clement S. Cookson and his wife of Hansford House, Burrington, he was killed on air operations on 6 April 1942 at the age of 27.
PETER DOUGLAS GRACEY
Captain Peter Douglas Gracey of the Royal Corps of Signals, Hong Kong Signal Coy. Son of Lt.Colonel Thomas Gracey, RE; JP; and his wife Agnes of Northcote Manor, Burrington. Born in 1915. Died between 1 October 1942 and 2 October 1942 aged 27.
