Almost all of Devon's Wills were destroyed during the bombing of Exeter. Just a handful have survived, either in the form of copies made by the Inland Revenue for legacy tax purposes or by the Prerogative Court of Canterbury during the probate completion process.
The aim of the Devon Wills Project is to provide a finding-aid in the form of a consolidated index of Devon wills, administrations and inventories, covering (and distinguishing between) original documents, probate copies, transcripts and abstracts. As well as official documents, wills found on personal family history websites are also included.
