LONGDOWN'S DISUSED RAILWAY STATION

To read an excellent article on Longdown's short-lived railway station by Dave Holman, go to

www.disused-stations.org.uk/l/longdown

Access to the station, which was a good mile from Longdown was via a steep path leading down from the road at the top to the road which lay in the valley below and provded flat land for the building of a very small station. Much used on market days by women taking their jam or eggs or butter into Exeter's two market halls.

If you look at the photo of Longdown Station from John Alsop's collection, you can see the path leading from the top down to the station, just behind the signal.
