The award of the Distinguished Conduct Medal to 18457 Lance Sergeant Walter Martin of the Grenadier Guards was gazetted 14 November 1916 and his citation for this award was published at the same time. He was then aged 26.

 

Walter Martin was the son of William and Mary Martin of North Tawton. He was born in the June Quarter of 1890 and his father was the local chimney sweep.

LANCE SERGEANT WALTER MARTIN
