21050 Lance Corporal William Henry Mortimore of the 1st Battalion, the Devonshire Regiment. Son of Charles and Mary Ann of Milton Combe, formerly of Park Cottage Inn, Sheepstor. Born in Sheepstor in the September Quarter of 1881. Died 23 April 1917 aged 36. |

PLY15599 Private Thomas Henry ("Harry") Blatchford of the Royal Marines, attached to HMS Defence. Son of John and Ann Blatchford. Born in Sheepstor 28 August 1894. Died 31 May 1916 aged 22 in the Battle of Jutland. |

Sub Lieutenant Peter Trevelyan Erskine Nicolson DSC,of the Royal Navy, base ship HMS Wasp. Second son of Erskine Nicolson, 3rd Baron Carnock, DSO; JP, formerly of the Royal Navy and the Hon Katherine Nicolson ( née Lopes) who had made their home in the parish. Born 3 September 1921. Killed in a surface action against enemy submarines 18 August 1942 while in command of Motor Torpedo Boat 38 (which was on attachment to Dover Command). He was the sole casualty. He was awarded the DSC after a similar attack on enemy shipping on 17 January 1942. |
