TEIGNMOUTH - BOARDERS AT CHURCH HILL HOUSE SCHOOL IN 1861 |
John Kempe acquired Church Hill House School from William Frist at some point in the late 1850s. Certainly, later advertisements for the school carry his name. In 1861, Kempe was 38 and, like Frist, ran the school with the help of one live-in assistant master and two servants. There are 13 boarders in the 1861 Census listing but almost certainly, there were day pupils as well. |
