WASHFIELD RESIDENTS IN GREGORY'S DIRECTORY OF 1894/5

This is an unusual Directory in that it names those inhabitants who live in rented accommodation and who are normally omitted. Those who own their own property are listed separately under the PRIVATE description - other people who live in the village are described as COTTAGERS and in many instances, their trade is also shown.

Washfield is a village and parish 2½ miles from Tiverton , in the Tiverton Division of Devon, Tiverton Union and County Court District. The church is dedicated to St. Mary the Virgin.  The rectory has a yearly tithe value of £407 with residence and glebe, in the gift of Mrs. Lloyd Worth and held by the Rev, Clement Govett. Acreage, 3319; rateable value, £3406; population 350. Letters through Tiverton.
